Leading up to a brand new weekly match report feature (keep checking our socials for more information), our editor @tfreyatwrites chose a corker of a match to get us started. From the top tier of Italian Women’s football on Saturday 8th November, 2025, it’s Inter Milan vs Sassuolo.

Serie A Women – Inter Milan 2 – 2 Sassuolo:

Inter started the afternoon strong by putting keeper Durand under intense pressure within minutes. However, it was a penalty that put the home side in the lead in the 8th minute, after a very obvious handball from Sassuolo defender, Nash. Inter’s leading goalscorer for the season, Tessa Wullaert, then stepped up and coolly converted for 1-0.

Two minutes later, the Belgian international had doubled their lead after receiving Magull’s through-ball on the edge of the area. Wullaert took aim towards the nearside of the goal and unfortunately for the visitors, Durand did get a hand to it but the angle of the ball deflected down and over the goal-line for 2-0.

Undeterred, Sassuolo got a goal back to make it 2-1 just after the twenty minute mark. Forward Naomi Eto did well to win the ball back from defender Andrés (as she tried to clear the ball from inside her own box) and then crossed into penalty area. Scottish international Lana Clelland then ran onto the ball and fired past keeper Rúnarsdóttir for 2-1.
Into first-half stoppage time, Inter were convinced they should have won another penalty and a challenge card was submitted to the referee. After the review however, the referee confirmed there was to be no penalty given and the half ended with Inter keeping their slight lead.

As the second-half progressed, it was clear the hosts wanted a wider gap between the teams and their best chance to do that came from substitute Robustellini around the 70th minute. After a deflection from an Inter free-kick, the defender picked up the ball on the edge of the 18 yard box and sent her half-volley towards goal but unfortunately it went just wide of the mark.
The visitors then enjoyed a dominant spell of possession with ten minutes of regular time to go which ended in in the equaliser!
Elena Dhont was able to win the ball back after intercepting Inter’s clearance and slipped the ball through the middle for Grève Chaïb. The midfielder turned and was allowed to run into space before letting a beautifully weighted strike fly from about 20 yards out to make it 2-2 in the 83rd minute.
As the clock wound down, both teams had one more chance each to score the winner but neither could find the target. The whistle finally blew and the points were shared at the Arena Civica.

The hosts will be disappointed not to hold onto their lead as the single point from this match only lands them in 8th place in the league, only one point ahead of Sassuolo who are currently in 11th. Not the best start for the team who were last season’s runner-up.

Special mention: A memorable milestone also for captain, Henrietta Csiszàr, who made her 100th appearance for the Nerazzurre across all competitions.
