Women’s FA Cup Semi-Finals (England)

Chelsea 2 – 1 Liverpool:
In this highly anticipated first semi-final of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup, it was Liverpool’s Olivia Smith who opened the scoring for the Reds with a superb strike in the 21st minute. The visitors held their lead until Erin Cuthbert equalised for the home side in first-half stoppage time.
As the game wore on, it looked as though the match was heading for extra time as neither side could find a way through. Until, English international, Aggie Beever-Jones, converted Sandy Baltimore’s cross in the fourth minute of stoppage time to send Chelsea through to the final of the Women’s FA Cup where they will meet Manchester United for a repeat of the 2022/23 final.

Manchester City 0 – 2 Manchester United:

An injury-stricken Manchester City side couldn’t find an answer to a clinical Manchester United, as two first-half goals were enough to see the Reds of Manchester through to another women’s FA Cup final.
The visitors quickly broke the deadlock in the 6th minute after a lovely ball over the top from Ella Toone dropped to Bizet on the edge of the box. Two quick touches left and right for the Norweigan to beat the City defence and send her curling shot into the top corner, beyond the reach of Keating, for 0-1.
Just after the 20th minute, United were able to double their lead as Grace Clinton was able to convert Gabby George’s corner; the midfielder was able to beat her marker and get goal-side of Gracie Prior to flick the ball into the back of the net to solidify their place in the final against Chelsea.
As the game wore on, Manchester City tested Phallon Tullis-Joyce a few times in the visiting goal: the first as Kerolin attempted an impressive overhead kick which Tullis-Joyce needed to palm over the crossbar and the second being a spectacular double save to deny firstly Hasegawa’s free-kick and then Lily Murphy’s subsequent rebound.
Manchester United surprisingly didn’t score more as chances from Bizet, Clinton, Toone and Galton all came up against Khiara Keating but couldn’t find the back of the net.
Manchester United are now through to their second Women’s FA Cup final in a row and will be hoping to retain their trophy after beating Tottenham Hotspur last season at Wembley. (Photo Credit: Manchester United Women)

Women’s Championship (England)

Newcastle United 6 – 0 Blackburn Rovers:

In a dominant display, Newcastle United produced their biggest win of the season so far over a struggling Blackburn Rovers.
Joint-top league goalscorer, Shania Hayles, put the Magpies in front with only ten minutes on the clock while Freya Gregory doubled their lead after tapping in the rebound to her initial shot around the 40 minute mark. To make it three before half-time, Beth Lumsden skilfully controlled the ball on the half-volley only two minutes later to ripple the back of the net.
After the restart, Blackburn struggled out of the blocks as Emily Murphy made it 4-0 only four minutes into the half as she nodded the ball down over the goal line. Blackburn were limited to just one chance in each half, with the best opportunity coming around the 60 minute mark from Chloe Williams. The midfielder received Primmer’s cross before shooting her long range effort which Newcastle keeper Claudia Moan saved comfortably.
Finally, it was Newcastle substitute, Isabella Sibley, who rounded off the afternoon with a brace in the 76th and 90th minute to take all three points.

The win sees Newcastle United stay in 6th place but they’re now equal on points (29) with Bristol City in 5th. Blackburn Rovers on the other hand have only won 5 points since January and stay in the thick of the relegation battle, only 5 points clear of 11th place Sheffield United. Serie A Femminile (Italy)

Sampdoria 0 – 3 Lazio:
This match was another missed opportunity for Sampdoria to escape the relegation zone even though it looked promising after a goalless first half. The home side successfully frustrated a dominating Lazio side, however, the visitors came out fighting in the second half and soon three goals found the back of the net. Inside of 15 minutes, Le Bihan, Visentin and Simonetti all scored to secure Lazio’s return to joint-top of the poule salvezza (relegation group).
This loss for Sampdoria, unfortunately keeps them at the bottom of the table only one point behind Napoli with only three matches left to play in this campaign.

Milan 5 – 3 Fiorentina:

The home side started strong and took the lead in the first 20 minutes through Evelyn Ijeh’s brace but it was Swedish international Madelen Janogy who got one back for the visitors before half-time for 2-1. After the restart, Milan continued to dominate with three goals in 15 minutes from Arrigoni, Renzotti and Koivisto to make it an impressive 5-1.
Although the home side continued to dominate, Janogy was once again the superstar for La Viola as she completed her hat-trick with goals in the 63rd and 82nd minute to make the final score a little less comfortable for Milan at 5-3.

Although Milan registered this impressive victory, they still sit at the bottom of the poule scudetto (Champions Round). However, they have moved within only one point of Fiorentina who remain in 4th place.

Roma 1 – 2 Juventus:
Even though the home side completely dominated this game, league leaders Juventus took their chances early and found it was enough to take all three points.
The visitors almost took the lead in the opening minute as midfielder Abi Brighton was left completely unmarked in the box but her effort was cut out as goalkeeper Ceasar came bravely out to collect. The breakthrough came through moments later though as Emma Stølen Godø was given time and space on the edge of the box to send in a curling shot that landed in the bottom corner of the net for 0-1.
Roma then picked up the pace with shots on target from Haavi, Giugliano and Giacinti but it was Juventus who were able to double their lead just after the thirty minute mark through Sofia Cantore. The forward dispossessed Linari on the counter and put the ball into the bottom corner for 0-2.
Roma started much brighter in the second half and completely dominated before finally finding the back of the net through Valentina Giacinti in the 83rd minute. Although the home side outshot their visitors 22 to 11, they struggled to find any other way through Juventus’ defence which remained strong until the final whistle.

Another win for Juventus puts them 7 points clear of Inter at the top of the league table whereas Roma remain in third place, still fighting to secure Champions League football next season. (Photo Credit: Juventus Women)

Napoli 0 – 1 Sassuolo:
In their best opportunity to escape the relegation battle, Napoli unfortunately wasted their chances in this tightly contested match.
The home side started the stronger of the two as Sassuolo keeper Durand had to make two very crucial saves in the opening 20 minutes. Durand was called into action yet again as chances from Napoli’s Andrup and Sciabica came calling within the first few minutes of the restart too.
Around the 50 minute mark, Scottish international Lana Clelland created the visitors’ best chance of the game as she drove into space down the left wing, found Missibo who crossed into the box for Chmielinski to flick on, but the ball went just over the crossbar.
In the 60th minute, Napoli’s Andrup wasted a fantastic chance as she hesitated in front of goal and her shot (and subsequent rebound) came to nothing.
Completely against the run of play, Sassuolo took a rare chance in the 76th minute which became the match winner. Philtjens provided a lovely cross into the box for Elena Dhont to powerfully head the ball into the back of the net for 0-1.
In the last minute of stoppage time, substitute Moretti almost gave Napoli a lifeline as she was through on goal but her shot was straight at keeper Durand who was able to parry it away.
Napoli remain very much in the relegation battle, only one point ahead of Sampdoria in the relegation spot. Sassuolo however remain comfortable in third place of the poule salvezza, sitting slightly off Como and Lazio who continue to battle it out for the top spot in the group.

Liga F (Spain)

Sevilla 2 – 1 Madrid CFF:
In this incredibly competitive match-up, it took until the 74th minute for Sevilla to break the deadlock through Fatou Kanteh. Two minutes later, however, Cabanillas equalised for the visitors. As the clock ticked down it looked as though the points would be shared, until Padilla-Bidas scored with four minutes left of regular time to secure the win for Sevilla.

The victory sees Sevilla move above Madrid CFF into 9th place as both teams continue to sit comfortably mid-table and safe at this point of the season. (Photo Credit: Sevilla Femenino)

Deportivo 3 – 1 Levante Badalona:
Despite the visitors creating the more clear-cut chances, it was Deportivo who came out on top on Matchday 25. Martin took the lead for the home side within the opening ten minutes, with Levante Badalona’s Elloh equalising just after the thirty minute mark. Deportivo then added to their tally through Samara Ortiz and Millene Cabral in the second half to take all three points.

The victory sees Deportivo move two places above Levante Badalona in the table, with just two points between the sides.

Real Betis 3 – 1 Sociedad:
The home side started strong as Garcia opened the scoring in the first minute of the match for the team’s first win since February. The game then continued end-to-end until half-time substitute for Sociedad, Mesonero, received a red card for fouling Ruiz Gámez in the box five minutes after coming onto the pitch. Márquez then stepped up to convert the penalty for 2-0. The home side then added their third and final goal of the afternoon through Carolina Férez. Finally, Lucia Pardo got a goal back for the visitors in the 81st minute but left it too late to take anything from the game.

This victory is huge for Real Betis as it widens the gap to seven points between them and Valencia in the relegation spot. Whereas this signals a fourth straight loss for Real Sociedad. (Photo Credit: Real Betis Femenino)

Eibar 0 – 3 Real Madrid:
Real Madrid continued their fight for the Liga F title with a dominant display over 8th placed Eibar. With 31 shots compared to Eibar’s 4, it took 50 minutes for the visitors to finally break the deadlock through Naomie Feller. Colombian international Linda Caicedo then doubled Real Madrid’s lead twenty minutes later before Signe Bruun added a third in the final minutes of added time for a comfortable victory.

The victory puts Real Madrid in touching distance of leaders Barcelona, only one point now separating the two sides.

Barcelona 6 – 0 Atlético de Madrid:
In this battle of first versus third, the visitors’ back line remained strong and frustrated the Barcelona attack until the 17th minute when Patri Guijarro converted from a set piece.
A rare few chances for Atlético came moments later, both from Gio, as the forward forced Cata Coll into two diving saves. Gallardo in the visitors’ goal continued to keep Barcelona out until Salma Paralluelo doubled their lead in the 35th minute, ending the half at 2-0.
After the restart, Barcelona continued their dominance scoring three more goals in 15 minutes through Graham Hansen, Brugts and Lopez before Aitana Bonmati scored the sixth and final goal in the 80th minute.

This victory keeps Barcelona 4 points clear of Real Madrid at the top of the table while Atlético de Madrid remain in third place, only one point ahead of Athletic Club who will also be fighting for one of the three UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifying spots.

UD Tenerife 1 – 2 Granada:
Only one point separated these two sides going into this match so it was no surprise it was another tightly contested match. Andrea Gómez Oliver was quick to open the scoring for Granada within the first ten minutes after she tapped in Ornella’s cross. Granada’s number nine almost got on the scoresheet herself as she skilfully navigated through the home side’s defence and sent a curling shot towards the goal; luckily for UD Tenerife, Ramos got a hand to it to deflect the danger.

However, the deciding ten minutes of the game came around half-time as in the 35th minute, Gavira was able to powerfully head Peña’s corner into the back of the net for the equaliser.
Then, in the final moment of first-half stoppage time, Jujuba Cardozo solidified the win for the visitors as she powerfully tapped in the rebounded shot which rippled the underside of the net for 1-2.

The victory sees Granada remain fifth and UD Tenerife remain sixth in the league table but Granada have now extended their lead by 4 points.

Athletic Club 2 – 3 Levante:

In one of the biggest ‘upsets’ of the weekend, 14th place Levante made the most of their chances to become victorious over 4th place Athletic Club. The home side got off to a strong start as Nahikari García danced through the defence to find the opener in the 18th minute. Levante, however, soon equalised after Lahmari was able to tap in Sosa’s cross on the volley for 1-1.
Despite Athletic Club’s dominance it was Levante who then took the lead five minutes later after a defensive error allowed Alharilla space on the edge of the box to send her curling shot past the keeper for 1-2.
After the restart, the home side equalised in spectacular fashion when Nevado was able to strike keeper Tarazona’s parry on the half-volley for 2-2. Ten minutes later, Levante’s victory was sealed as Alharilla was able to beat the defender and chip the ball over the goalkeeper for her brace.

Athletic Club would have hoped for a win which would have put them in third place in the league table. As it stands they remain in 4th, one point behind Atlético. Levante have now won 3 out of their last 5 games and remain in 14th place. Only 6 points now separate 10th and 15th. (Photo credit: Levante Femenino)

Valencia 1 – 1 Espanyol:
In an opportunity to close the gap between the bottom teams, Valencia came out fighting and put the Espanyol defence and particularly keeper, Romy Salvador, under pressure very early on. The French keeper pulling off some spectacular saves to keep the scoreline at 0-0 but after an initial fast-paced first 15 minutes, both teams slowed and struggled to create any scoring opportunities.

The first clear cut chance of the afternoon then came in the second half and resulted in Espanyol taking the lead when Lacosta Sanchez chipped the ball into the box for Lice Chamarro. The striker took two controlled touches before sending keeper Canales the opposite way for 0-1.
Valencia felt they should have equalised after the 60 minute mark when substitute Phoenetia Browne tried to powerfully head the ball down over the line. However, the ball bounced too early and deflected off the crossbar and no goal was given.
As the clock ticked on, Valencia found their rhythm and Salvador had to make yet another majestic save as she propelled herself off the ground to palm the powerful strike up and over the goal to keep her team in the lead.
Unfortunately for Salvador, Valencia were awarded a penalty in the 90+2 minute after a foul in the box which Yasmin Mrabet stepped up to convert for a last minute equaliser.

A huge point for Valencia as although they remain in the bottom spot they are closing the gap on Real Betis to try and escape relegation (now down to a 7 point gap). Espanyol meanwhile sit in 12th position after an unconvincing run of form in their last 5 matches.

Première Ligue (France)

Paris Saint-Germain 6 – 0 Reims:
A powerful display from the home side saw three goals in each half to secure their third league win in a row.
Kanjinga was the first to find the back of the net within the opening ten minutes, closely followed by Romeé Leuchter’s first of the afternoon. The third goal of the half then came from Paulina Dudek’s glancing header from a set piece just after the twenty minute mark.
Within five minutes of the restart, Jennifer Echegini had added a fourth with a strike from the edge of the 18 yard box before Katoto rounded the keeper to ripple the net and make it 5-0.
Reims finally had their best chance of the game to pull one goal back from a powerful shot which forced Earps into a diving save. The final goal of the afternoon gave Leuchter her brace after beating her 1-on-1 duel with the goalkeeper for all three points.

This win retains PSG’s second place position in the league table whereas the loss keeps Reims in 11th place, just one place above the relegation spot.

Guingamp 3 – 1 Montpellier:
The home side took their chances on Saturday afternoon for a shock win (only their second of the campaign) against a previously in form Montpellier side. It all began with a penalty moments before the half-time whistle which Alison Péniguel stepped up and coolly converted past keeper, Lerond for 1-0.

Ten minutes after the restart, Ribeyra doubled the home side’s lead before Guellati added their third and final goal of the afternoon in the 71st minute. Montpellier, however, got their consolation goal in the 80th minute through Justine Rouquet, but the visitors ran out of time to begin a comeback.

Although Guingamp remain bottom of the table they are now only 6 points behind Reims in 11th place while Montpellier remain 6th.

Dijon 1 – 0 Saint Étienne:
A last minute winner for Dijon secured their third win in a row but condemned Saint Étienne to their fifth straight defeat in the league. Despite outshooting the visitors 15 to 2 and dominating possession, it took until the 5th minute of stoppage time for Klaudia Jedlińska to secure their victory.
Dijon dominated the first half but struggled to create any clear-cut chances. In the second half, Saint Étienne came out fighting and had two very good opportunities which Talaslahti in goal had to nullify. As the half progressed, Dijon regained control and almost went ahead through substitute Taylor but her shot was deflected onto the crossbar. The breakthrough finally came after a lovely cross from Terchoun found Jedlińska in space in the box to head the ball down into the bottom corner of the net.

The victory sees Dijon stay in 4th place, only 3 points behind Paris FC (and the third Champions League qualifying spot) whereas Saint Étienne continue their fight against relegation in 9th place.

Fleury 4 – 0 Nantes:
Although ten points separate these two sides in the league table, this defeat signals Nantes’ second loss in a row, whereas Fleury have picked up points in 4 of their last 5 matches.
The home side thought they had taken the lead after Robert tapped in a scrappy deflection but the attempt was flagged for offside in the build-up. Nantes then had their own chance soon afterwards as Fernández Recio’s overhead kick set up Uchendu to head the ball into the back of the net but Fleury keeper Francart was able to punch the effort away.
After several more attempts, Charlotte Fernandes broke the deadlock with the only goal of the half as her powerful header converted Dafeur’s corner for 1-0.
Moments after the restart, Fleury found their rhythm as goalscorer-turned-provider, Fernandes, delivered a beautiful cross into the box for Morgane Martins to run onto and double their lead. Five minutes later, Robert finally got her name on the scoresheet after a mistimed defensive error allowed the forward to be through on goal, completely unmarked, as she slotted her strike through the legs of Burns in goal for 3-0.
Nantes then had one of their best chances as substitute, Louise Fleury, tried her luck on the edge of the box but it was straight into the hands of Francart.
The final goal of the game then came through a penalty as Nantes’ Pasquereau fouled Aissata Traoré. Moments later, Marine Dafeur stepped up to successfully convert in the 63rd minute for 4-0. Fleury almost finished the game with a fifth; as substitute, Batcheba Louis, sent in a powerful shot from distance in the final portion of the game but it went just wide of the crossbar.

This result keeps both teams in their respective places of fifth (Fleury) and seventh (Nantes) completely safe from the relegation battle.

Lyon 2 – 2 Paris FC:
In this battle of first versus third, a later equaliser for the visitors saw the points shared at the Groupama Stadium.
The home side took the lead after 15 minutes after Damaris Egurrola was able to connect with Marozsán’s corner and the ball went in off the post for 1-0. Paris FC almost made the most of van de Donk’s loose pass in the 20th minute, however not only was Endler able to save the attempt but the offside flag was also raised.
The visitors then continued to dominate in terms of chances with Thiney and Mateo coming the closest to the equaliser. One minute after the restart it was the latter who finally got her name on the scoresheet for the equaliser. After receiving a through-ball from Thiney, Mateo was through on goal and placed her strike over the head of the keeper for 1-1.

The game then continued end-to-end as both teams created convincing chances in front of goal, however, it was a superb free-kick taken by Majri for Lyon to regain their lead. The midfielder was able to curl her shot over the wall and into the top corner for 2-1.
Just as Lyon thought the three points were secure in the 2nd minute (out of a huge 9 minutes) of stoppage time, substitute Dufour delivered a curling ball from a free-kick on the edge of the area which fellow substitute Mathilde Bourdieu was able to catch on the half-volley and smash into the roof of the net for the equaliser.

This is only the second time Lyon have dropped points this season, the last time in October 24 in this reverse fixture where the score ended 0-0. A point from this fixture helps Lyon keep an 8 point gap between themselves and PSG in second place and allows Paris FC to keep just ahead of Dijon who are closing the gap between 3rd and 4th for those Champions League spots.

Strasbourg 1 – 1 Le Havre:
In this bottom half of the table clash, there was hardly anything to separate the two sides as the points were shared at the Stade de la Meinau.
In the opening twenty minutes, both sides created half-chances on goal but nothing to threaten either keeper (although Le Havre almost took the lead after the ball slipped through Strasbourg’s keeper, Wahl’s, hands before she was quickly able to recover).
As both sides settled into the game, the two goals of the match came within 10 minutes of each other. The first for the home side as Périsset was allowed space to run down the right side before crossing into the box for Hoeltzel to tap in for 1-0.
Moments later at the other end of the pitch, Le Havre’s Gavory delivered a well-taken corner kick into the box which Sangaré controlled and tapped into the path of Kouache who flicked the ball into the back of the net for the equaliser.
In the second half, both teams had just one clear-cut chance each to take all three points but weren’t clinical enough to find the winner.

Strasbourg sit in 10th place in the league table only 7 points from safety, whereas Le Havre remain comfortably in 8th place, just outside of the relegation battle.

Frauen Bundesliga (Germany)

SGS Essen 0 – 1 Werder Bremen:

Despite several opportunities for the home side in the first half, the better of the chances from Kowalski and Maier failed to make it past goalkeeper Peng in the visiting goal.
In the second half, SGS continued to dominate and had their best chance of the game when Purtscheller was able to fire a powerful shot towards goal but Peng was there again to deny the opportunity. Against the run of play, it was Werder Bremen who suddenly picked up the pace and Larissa Mühlhaus was able to score the decider in the 72nd minute.

With this victory, Werder Bremen increase their lead above SGS Essen by 10 points in the table as the teams sit 8th and 9th respectively.

Carl Zeiss Jena 1 – 0 Potsdam:

The home side started this fixture strong, knowing a win in this fixtures was likely to secure their place in the league for the 25/26 season.
Within a few minutes, the home side’s Reuter already had an early chance on goal but the effort was just wide. Both teams then settled into a slower rhythm and neither team were able to break the deadlock before half-time despite numerous half-chances.
Potsdam then opened the second half with a renewed energy as captain Schwalm hit the side netting within minutes of the restart but again both teams lacked that clinical edge to find the back of the net. In the 64th minute, however, Jena finally took the lead after captain Julevic crossed a lovely ball into the box for Isabella Jaron to convert for 1-0. Potsdam were nearly able to equalise from a dangerous free-kick but Jena goalkeeper, El Sharif, was able to deflect the danger.

This victory sees Carl Zeiss Jena 9 points ahead of Potsdam who remain in the relegation spot after winning only 1 point in the entire season. (Photo Credit: FC Carl Zeiss Jena Frauen)

Eintracht Frankfurt 0 – 3 Bayern Munich:
Over 30,000 spectators turned out for this top of the table clash between first place Bayern Munich and second place Eintracht Frankfurt.
In this incredibly fast-paced game, it was the visitors who found the back of the net quickly in the 12th minute through Lea Schüller for 0-1. Moments later Gräwe had a fantastic opportunity to equalise after receiving a through-ball from Laura Freigang but was unable to convert. Pernille Harder then had her first chance for Bayern as her effort hit the post.
Controversially, Klara Bühl doubled the visitors’ lead around the thirty minute mark but the goal was initially ruled out for offside. The decision was then overturned moments later and the goal was given for 0-2. In the dying moments of the first-half, Reuteler and Prasnikar had chances to get one back for the home side but their chances ultimately came to nothing.
Within ten minutes of the restart, Eintracht Frankfurt’s luck worsened as Wolter’s clearance was intercepted and lead to Pernille Harder finally getting her name on the scoresheet for Bayern’s third and final goal of the afternoon. The home side attempted to get back into the game but were unable to make the most of their chances as the game finished 0-3.

Bayern Munich now extend their lead at the top of the table by 9 points, whereas Eintracht Frankfurt (for the moment) stay in second place but are now level on 41 points with third place Wolfsburg who are yet to play this weekend.

Freiburg 1 – 1 Wolfsburg:
In this frustrating battle, Freiburg earned a last minute equaliser to take points away from Wolfsburg’s title hopes.
The first half saw the visitors dominate with shots from Minge and Brand on target within the first five minutes. The visitors lacked their usual ruthlessness in front of goal as Beerensteyn and Popp beautifully linked up around the twenty minute mark but still couldn’t find a break through.
The tide then started to turn in the last ten minutes of the first-half as Freiburg had opportunities to take the lead through Svenja Fölmli and Cora Zicai, but the half remained goalless.
As the second half began, Wolfsburg came out fighting yet again with Alex Popp sending more efforts just wide of the crossbar. Finally, the visitors found their breakthrough just after the 70 minute mark, as Joelle Wedemeyer beat her defender on the left wing and crossed the ball from the edge of the box where it rippled the back of the net for 0-1.

With ten minutes to go, Wolfsburg looked likely to double their lead, however, Freiburg’s keeper Nuding once again prevented the attack as she stopped a backheel flick from Blomqvist going over the line. It was then in the final minute of regular time that Freiburg got their hard fought equaliser when Szenk was able to put a cross into the box for Annabel Schasching to tap in past keeper Borbe.
This point was vital point for both teams as it sees Wolfsburg keep their second spot, now only one point ahead of Eintracht Frankfurt; whereas Freiburg keep their slight lead in 5th place, only one point ahead of Hoffenheim in 6th. (Photo Credit: SoccerDonna)

Hoffenheim 5 – 2 RB Leipzig:
In this 7 goal thriller, TSG Hoffenheim secured their third league victory in a row after a dominant performance against close rivals RB Leipzig.
After an early chance from the visitors, Hoffenheim sprung into action and scored two goals in two minutes with stunning strikes from Selina Cerci and Melissa Kössler.
After the restart, it was soon 3-0 after Lisa Doorn converted her first Bundesliga goal from a corner kick (although it was recorded as an Landenberger own goal in some news outlets).
The game then continued end-to-end as the visitors pulled a goal back just before the 60th minute through Giovanna Hoffmann for 3-1. A defensive error ten minutes later led to Hickelsberger adding a fourth for the home side before a goalkeeping slip-up allowed Vanessa Fudalla to cut the deficit to 4-2.
In the final minute of the game, Hoffenheim delivered their final blow as Marie Steiner was able to head Alber’s cross over the line for 5-2.

TSG Hoffenheim sit in 6th place, moving to within one point of Freiburg in 5th and have extended their lead ahead of RB Leipzig who stay in 7th.

Leverkusen 1 – 1 FC Köln:
The final match of the Frauen Bundesliga this weekend finished with the points being shared in a surprising draw between 4th place Leverkusen and 10th place FC Köln: the visitors’ first point since February.
Leverkusen were able to dominate the opening thirty minutes, with multiple shots on goal and it was looking likely the home side would take the lead.

However, just after the thirty minute mark, against the run of play, FC Köln were able to intercept the ball in midfield and launch their first attack on goal.
A lovely through ball was passed to forward Taylor Ziemer who zig-zagged her way through the Leverkusen defence and took her chance in front of goal to send a powerful low strike into the bottom corner for 0-1. Catching the hosts off-guard, Adriana Achcińska looked to double the visitors’ lead but her chance went just wide.
It took until five minutes after the restart for the hosts to find an answer as Cornelia Kramer was able to flick the ball into the back of the net, converting Kögel’s well-delivered corner-kick, for 1-1.
In the final moment of the game, FC Köln almost pulled off a last minute victory as they tried to capitalise on another loose Leverkusen pass. The ball was crossed into the heavily congested box but got caught under the feet of Feiersinger who ultimately lost it to a Leverkusen clearance.

Ultimately, the home side will be frustrated they weren’t more clinical with their chances in front of goal but they remain comfortably in 4th place in the league table. FC Köln on the other hand will be grateful for the point which sees them now seven points clear of the relegation zone and only two points behind FC Carl Zeiss Jena in 10th place.
