Women’s Super League (England)

Everton 3 – 0 Crystal Palace:

After their win at home to Aston Villa last weekend gave them hope of escaping the relegation zone, Crystal Palace couldn’t find enough to take anything from this strong Everton side. Justine Vanhaevermaet broke the deadlock just before half-time, followed by Sara Holmgaard doubling their lead 24 seconds after the restart. Everton’s third and final goal came from French international Kelly Gago in the 90+5′ minute to secure the three points.

This win puts Everton impressively in 7th place after a shaky start to the season whereas another defeat keeps Crystal Palace in the relegation spot but only one point behind Aston Villa in 11th place.

Arsenal 4 -0 Liverpool:

Two Liverpool own goals added to an incredibly dominant Arsenal performance at the Emirates stadium as the north London team become the first to score 4+ goals in six consecutive league matches.
Caitlin Foord returned to both the starting XI and the scoresheet as she opened her account just before the thirty minute mark. A minute later, the ball deflected off Liverpool’s Jasmine Matthews to double the Gunners’ lead. Just before half time, Mariona Caldentey got Arsenal’s third with a super curling strike. Disaster then struck again for Matthews as in the 69th minute the ball took another deflection for her second own goal of the afternoon and Arsenal’s 4th.

Another resounding win keeps Arsenal in 2nd place in the WSL fighting for a Champions League spot with 39 points; their better goal difference keeping them on top as Manchester United in 3rd place also have 39 points. Liverpool remain in 6th place, one point behind Brighton in the mid-table ‘chasing’ group.

West Ham United 2 – 0 Tottenham Hotspur:

An own goal and a last minute strike saw West Ham take all three points as Tottenham Hotspur suffered their fifth straight league defeat.
Despite an early chance for the visitors (which Szemik quickly punched away) and some very good opportunities throughout the match, Spurs just couldn’t find a way through to rescue any points.
In the 16th minute, West Ham had their first of the game as Verena Hanshaw delivered a cross into the box. However, to her surprise the shot took a powerful deflection off Spurs’ defender Josefine Rybrink’s leg and the ball flew into the back of the net for 1-0.
As the game continued, West Ham created the more clear cut chances in front of goal but it was Tottenham Hotspur who looked the most likely to go level. Shots from Martinez and Gorry forced Szemik into impressive saves before Summanen’s shot from a free-kick came the closest and deflected off the crossbar.
West Ham sealed their win, however, in the 90th minute when Viviane Asseyi took a free-kick from outside of the box and it travelled unchallenged into the box before taking a bounce and into the bottom corner for 2-0.

This victory sees West Ham leapfrog Tottenham Hotspur in the table to sit in 8th place, one point ahead of the Lilywhites in 9th place.

Manchester City 1 – 2 Chelsea:

In the third of four consecutive meetings between these two sides, it was Manchester City who broke the deadlock first just after the 30 minute mark. Kerolin was allowed far too much time on the edge of the box before taking a shot that went through the legs of Millie Bright and keeper, Hannah Hampton, for 1-0.
Hasegawa came close to adding a second from a dangerous free-kick but her effort deflected off the crossbar. Jess Park also had a goal disallowed after the referee did not play advantage having blown for a free-kick in their favour; which the home side’s interim boss Nick Cushing said officials later “admitted they made a mistake.”
It only took minutes after the restart for Chelsea to get their equaliser after Aggie Beever-Jones was able to slot the ball under the outstretched arm of Keating in the 49th minute. Keating, however, did make some spectacular saves during the match, including one moments later to deny Wieke Kaptein a second for Chelsea. The visitors then stepped it up a gear for the remainder of the match as wave after wave of attacks on City’s goal (28 shots in total) came to no avail, until, the first minute of added time when Erin Cuthbert’s header finally made it passed Keating for a last-minute winner.

Chelsea’s win see them retain their top spot, 8 points clear of Arsenal in second place. Manchester City, however, are watching their Champions League hopes move further away as they sit in fourth place, 7 points behind Manchester United in third.

Leicester City 3 – 2 Brighton and Hove Albion:

Going into this match, Brighton sat 10 points clear of the Foxes, however, this scoreline showed why no team should ever be underestimated in the WSL.
Just after the ten minute mark, Shannon O’Brien was able to capitalise on a Brighton defensive error on the edge of the box and took her chance, sending the ball low into the bottom left-hand corner for 1-0.
This early goal seemed to rattle Brighton as yet another error led to the home side’s second of the afternoon. It was a loose pass from Pattison at the back that was quickly intercepted by scorer O’Brien who was then able to pick out Hannah Cain on the right wing in plenty of space. Cain then crossed into the box for Takarada to tap home for 2-0.
Things then turned even worse for Brighton as Hannah Cain, on the stroke of half-time, was once again was allowed to run into space down the right-wing and put a lovely cross into the box for Chossenotte to convert. However, as Brighton’s McLauchlan had raced to get back into the box to defend, as she slid into the box, the ball took a deflection off her leg and into the back of the net for an own goal, 3-0 to the Foxes.
The second half, on the other hand, was much more promising for the visitors as they managed to pull back two goals in the 73rd and 81st minute. The first came from a well-taken effort on the edge of the box as Nikita Parris set up Madison Haley for the strike and finally, Janina Leitzig was beaten. Leicester did have the chance to extend their lead back to three goals as they were awarded a penalty but Loeck dived correctly and was able to saved Momiki’s attempt. Brighton then fortunately received their own penalty shout when Parris was brought down in the box. Fran Kirby was then able to step up and coolly convert. At 3-2 in the 81st minute, Brighton almost equalised as Leitzig had to make a fingertip save to deny Pattison’s strike from the edge of the area. After a nervous last ten minutes, Leicester were able to hold on for another important win.
Leicester now sit in 10th position in the WSL table, 6 points clear of Crystal Palace in the relegation spot and 5 points clear of Aston Villa in 11th place. Brighton remain in 5th place, 10 points behind Manchester City in 4th but only one point ahead of Liverpool in 6th.

Aston Villa 0 – 4 Manchester United:

Aston Villa’s poor first half made it too easy for Manchester United as they put three goals past Sabrina D’Angelo before half-time.
The first goal came just after the 20th minute, as Celine Bizet was allowed too much space to run down the right wing and cross into the box for Elisabeth Terland to convert for 0-1.
Terland’s second of the match came just under ten minutes later as a poor Villa clearance was intercepted by Jayde Riviere who sent the ball back into the box for Terland, this time converting through a powerful header that D’Angelo stretched for but the shot sailed under her.
The third goal, however, caused outrage from Villa’s Jill Baijings who felt she was fouled in the build up. Grace Clinton had pulled Baijing’s shirt, forcing the midfielder to the floor in full view of the referee but the foul wasn’t given. Clinton then spotted D’Angelo off her line and sent a powerful strike from long range over the top of the Canadian on the stroke of half-time for 0-3.
In the second half, Aston Villa came out with more fight and came close to getting a goal back through Jordan Nobbs who sent her strike just wide. Manchester United weren’t finished, however, as in the 64th minute substitute Melvine Malard was allowed to put a cross into the box for Leah Galton to put into the roof of the net (after a deflection off Lucy Parker) for 0-4. Despite Villa’s substitutes being a bright spark in the final ten minutes, the home side couldn’t get back into the game before the final whistle finally blew.

Manchester United are now 7 points clear of Manchester City as both northwest teams continue to battle for a Champions League place. Aston Villa on the other hand are fighting for survival, only one point clear of Crystal Palace in the relegation spot.

Women’s Championship (England)

Blackburn Rovers 1 – 1 Bristol City:

Bristol City will have felt incredibly unlucky to not take all three points from this match with 14 shots and 8 on target, five times higher than their hosts. However, the home side would have been delighted with the point even though they aren’t out of danger yet, still only two points ahead of Sheffield United in the relegation spot. The home side, against the run of play, took the lead in the 52nd minute through Tyler Toland, however the Robins were able to equalise through Ffion Morgan in the 66th minute to make sure they took something from their dominant performance.
This was a vital point for Blackburn Rovers as it sees them increase the gap to two points between themselves and Sheffield United who are in the relegation spot. Bristol City, on the other hand, keep themselves in 5th place, tied on 26 points with Newcastle United.

Southampton 0 – 0 Portsmouth:

After winning against Sunderland last weekend which saw them move off the bottom spot for the first time this season; Portsmouth put out an impressive performance to hold off Southampton and earn themselves another important point in the relegation battle. Although Southampton slightly dominated possession in this south coast derby, there was hardly anything to separate the two teams in terms of attempts on goal, making 0-0 a surprisingly fair reflection of the game.
Another key point for Portsmouth in this incredibly tight relegation battle which sees them only 3 points clear of Sheffield United at the bottom. Southampton now sit only one place above Portsmouth in the table but still maintain a 9 point gap between the three teams at the bottom and the rest of the pack.

Charlton Athletic 1 – 1 Birmingham:

A dramatic late equaliser from Charlton Athletic saw Birmingham City’s lead at the top of the table reduced to a single point.
In the first half, Birmingham dominated having two shots on target before finally breaking the deadlock in the 14th minute. Charlton had attempted to play out from the back but Choe Yu-Ri was able to intercept the ball and drive through the midfield. She slipped the ball through to Lee Geum-Min just inside of the area who clinically put the ball past Whitehouse for 0-1. Charlton had a single chance in the first half through Jodie Hutton but keeper, Franch, was able to punch it away.
Birmingham City continued to dominate in the second half but weren’t clinical enough to put any more of their chances into the back of the net. As the clock ticked down and another Birmingham free-kick was wasted and it was down to Charlton to have a moment of magic.
On the counter, it was substitute Siber who took her chance and dispossessed Harrison-Murray as she slipped. Driving forward, Siber was able to make it all of the way onto the edge of Birmingham’s box before passing to Mel Filis who took her chance in front of goal. The shot took a slight deflection from Franch’s outstretched gloves and into the back of the net in the 90+1′ minute for the equaliser.
In the final minutes, the game became frantic with both sides in search of the winner but Charlton came the closest. Jodie Hutton’s free-kick on the edge of the box forced Franch again into a diving save. After 9 minutes of added time, the game ended 1-1.
Each point was vital to both teams today as Birmingham City still sit in first place with 36 points just one point above London City Lionesses. Whereas the point for Charlton sees them leapfrog Durham into third place, again only a single point between the two sides.

London City Lionesses 4 – 0 Sheffield United:

In a true display of dominance that denied Sheffield United any shots in front of goal, London City Lionesses kept their promotion dreams alive with another win.
It was Boye-Hlorkah who opened the floodgates just before the 20 minute mark; spotting keeper Rogers slightly off her line. The forward tried her luck with a powerful shot from distance and was able to put the home side in the lead. Minutes before half-time, Swedish international Jakobsson was able to pick out Asllani in the box who converted quite coolly for 2-0.
Moments after the restart, London City took their corner short and the ball fell to the feet of Grace Neville just outside of the 18 yard box. She took a moment before curling her shot with incredible precision over the keeper and into the back of the net for their third of the afternoon. Not content with only three goals, however, defender Georgia Brougham added her name to the scoresheet in the 90th minute to make it 4-0.
London City Lionesses now move within one point of Birmingham City in first place in the Women’s Championship. Sheffield United, however, are now sitting at the bottom spot of the Women’s Championship after only picking up 2 points in their last 6 games.

Newcastle United 1 – 0 Sunderland:

In the first Tyne-Wear derby to be held at St. James’ Park it was a record-breaking crowd of 38,502 people turned out to see the home-side narrowly win over their red and white rivals.
Newcastle dominated from the first whistle and Beth Lumsden nearly scored the opener for Newcastle but keeper Demi Lambourne was alert to the danger and pulled off a great save to deny her. The Magpies were the most dominant side throughout and if they were more clinical, the scoreline would have been much higher.
In the second half, Sunderland’s best chance came from Katie Kitching who was able to cross the ball into the box for Katy Watson but unfortunately her attempt sailed over the crossbar.
There were nothing to separate the two teams and it looked as though it would end in a stalemate, however, super substitute Shania Hayles made sure the hosts took all three points. The opportunity came after a loose Sunderland pass was intercepted and Newcastle were able to then break on the counter which led to Shania Hayles firing her shot straight past Lambourne for 1-0 in the 77th minute.
The victory sees Newcastle leapfrog over Sunderland in the table to 6th place, with their rivals moving down to 7th place. Both teams were contenders in the title race for the majority of this season but both have now dropped too many points to be amongst the challenge this season.

Serie A Femminile (Italy)

Sassuolo 0 – 2 Lazio:

After an unprecedented home defeat last week, Lazio were looking to get back on top of the ‘poule salvezza’ and two goals in the lead up to half-time would see them do exactly that.
Although Sassuolo dominated in attempts on goal (15 shots compared to Lazio’s 9) none of them were enough to trouble Cetinha in the Lazio goal. French international striker, Clarisse Le Bihan, was first to strike in the 40th minute and then turned provider for Eleonora Goldoni to double Lazio’s lead 5 minutes later in the final minute of the first half.
This win means Lazio are back to topping the ‘relegation group’ only one point above Como Women.

Milan 3 – 1 Roma:

Despite Roma being 10 points clear of Milan in the league table before the match started, it was the hosts who came from behind to take all 3 points. Roma got off to a dominant start and had taken the lead through Canadian international, Evelyne Viens, after just 4 minutes. Milan weren’t to be deterred though and made the most of their chances as Evelyn Ijeh equalised for the home side in the 28th minute. With further goals in the second half coming from Chanté Dompig (62′) and finally young forward Giorgia Arrigoni sealing the victory in the final minute of stoppage time.
Despite the win, Milan are still bottom of the ‘poule scudetto’ or ‘champions group’ in this second phase of the league, one point behind Fiorentina.

Fiorentina 1 – 0 Inter:

La Viola have been impressed so far this season and continued to do so with their slight win over Inter this weekend.
From the first whistle, both teams came out fighting and it was end-to-end with both teams registering shots on target within the first 10 minutes.
It was Inter’s Detruyer who came the closest to breaking the deadlock as their strike around the 20 minute mark forced Fiskerstrand into a fingertip save. In the dying moments of the first half, it looked as though Fiorentina could take the lead as they were awarded a penalty after Bonfantini was brought down in the box. Vero Boquete then stepped up to convert but Inter’s keeper Rúnarsdóttir was able to dive the correct way and save the shot. Both teams then entered the break goalless.
Three minutes after the restart, the deadlock was finally broken when Fiorentina’s Bredgaard attempted a powerful strike from the edge of the box. The shot took an initial deflection which hit the crossbar and bounced back out of the goal. Luckily, Bonfantini was waiting in the box and was able to tap in the rebound for 1-0. The rest of the half, Inter dominated possession but couldn’t find a way through La Viola’s defence.
Fiorentina now sit in 4th place in the ‘champions group’ in this second phase of the league, only 4 points behind Inter. The visitors on the other hand, have only picked up 2 points in their last 4 games. Leaving them in second place, 10 points behind leaders Juventus and only 1 point ahead of Roma in third place.

Como Women 2 – 2 Sampdoria:

A huge point for bottom of the table Sampdoria against joint top of the ‘poule salvezza’, Como Women.
Surprisingly, Sampdoria took the lead early on through Giada Burbassi, even though Como Women questioned if the offside flag should have been raised. Just before the 20th minute, Como Women almost got their equaliser as a deflected header came off the crossbar and appeared to bounce in over the line, however, no goal was ruled. The game continued end-to-end until Nadine Nischler (who skilfully controlled the ball and turned in front of goal) tucked the ball away for the equaliser in the 36th minute.
Como Women then looked the more likely after the restart to take the lead, however, on the counter, Sampdoria’s Bertucci found herself in masses of space and made a lovely run down the right wing before sending a cross into the box which Cecilia Re expertly converted for 1-2.
The visitors then entered a really confident portion of play where it looked like they would hold their lead to take the three points. However, the last 15 minutes of the game, Como Women stepped up another gear and looked determined to find the equaliser. In the final minute of stoppage time, Como Women were given a free-kick in a very dangerous area which after some scrappy attempts at clearing the ball, Sarina Bolden was able to tap the ball into the back of the net to rescue a point for her team.

This point for Sampdoria, although still in the relegation spot, takes them to within one point of Napoli and gives them hope that they might survive another season in Serie A. The point for Como Women also sees them move back into the top spot of the ‘relegation group’ although level on points with Lazio.

Liga F (Spain)

Deportivo 0 – 0 UD Tenerife:

Sitting 7th in the table, UD Tenerife were the favourites to take the three points but Deportivo surprisingly looked the side who would have finished the victors. The home side outshot their visitors 18 to 9, dominated possession and looked a lot closer than their 9 points difference in the table suggests.

Deportivo now sit in 13th place while UD Tenerife sit in 7th only point behind Granada in 6th.

Real Betis 0 – 1 Eibar:

Although Real Betis dominated this match, it was the visitors who took their chance in the 42nd minute through Carmen Álvarez that helped seal all 3 points. Despite their numerous chances on goal, the home-side struggled to be clinical in their finishing and are now without a win in their last four games.

Real Betis are still 8 points clear of the relegation spot whereas Eibar have now won their last three games and sit in 8th place.

Levante Badalona 0 – 1 Athletic Club:

Despite the 20 point difference between these two clubs in the league standings, against the odds it was Levante Badalona who dominated for long spells of the game and looked like they would take at least one point from this match up. However, it was Athletic Club’s Irene Oguiza who showed a moment of quality in front of goal to seal the win for the visitors in the 73rd minute.

Levante Badalona remain in 12th place on equal points (23) with Deportivo in 13th place whereas Athletic Club move into third place, two points clear of Atlético Madrid.

Espanyol 1 – 0 Levante:

Going into this game there was only 1 point separating the two sides and despite Levante’s dominance and an Espanyol red card in the 66th minute, it was still the home side who were victorious.
Levante dominated from the very beginning but just couldn’t find a way past Salvador in goal. However, in the 41st minute, completely against the run of play, it was Lice Chamorro who finally broke the deadlock and gave the home side the lead. Levante continued to attack right up until the final whistle but lacked that clinical finish to get any of their 17 shots over the line.

The win sees Espanyol leapfrog into 11th place whilst Levante remain only two spots from the bottom in 14th position.

Barcelona 1 – 3 Real Madrid:

For the first time ever, Real Madrid won the historic ‘El Clasico’ away to reigning champions Barcelona. There was nothing to separate the two sides until Alba Redondo opened the scoring for Real Madrid minutes before half-time with a header that looped over keeper, Cata Coll.
Barcelona continued fighting, finally getting their break-through with Caroline Graham Hansen who equalised in the 67th minute. The game continued end-to-end and Barcelona thought they had taken the lead through Jana Fernández but her goal was ruled out (possibly incorrectly) for offside. Uncharacteristically, Barcelona struggled to be clinical in front of goal and the points remained shared until Caroline Weir delivered a brace within the final 10 minutes of the game to secure their place in history.

Real Madrid remain second in the league table but now sit only 4 points behind Barcelona.

Real Sociedad 0 – 2 Atlético de Madrid:

This match-up was the fight for 4th place with Atlético de Madrid only 2 points ahead of Real Sociedad before kick-off. From the start it was Atlético who dominated throughout the match, creating 19 chances with half of those troubling the goalkeeper.
It wasn’t until the second half, however, until Atlético’s goals started flowing. Brazilian forward Giovana Queiroz gave the visitor’s the lead in the 53rd minute with fellow Brazilian Luany completing the scoresheet just after the 70th minute.

Atlético now sit securely in 4th place with 39 points, 5 points ahead of Real Sociedad in 5th place.

Sevilla 0 – 2 Granada:

Only 3 points separated the two sides going into this match but it was clear from the first whistle Granada looked to be the ones to take all three points.
A goal in each half sealed the win for the visitors as Cristina Postigo Martín broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute followed by Edna Imade converting her powerful chance in the 85th minute. Sevilla, on the other hand, only created two clear-cut chances throughout the entire game but neither of them were enough to trouble Estévez in Granada’s goal.

Granada now sit in 6th position on 33 points, 6 points clear of Sevilla in 9th.

Valencia 4 – 1 Madrid CFF:

The statement result of Liga F came in the final game of the weekend when bottom of the table Valencia stunned Madrid CFF.
The home side were clinical throughout, scoring all 4 of their goals before Emilie Nautnes scored a consolation goal for the visitors. Despite Madrid CFF having the majority of possession and registering more shots, Valencia were able to find a way through and attack on the counter twice. Aida Esteve opened the scoring in the 40th minute with Marina Martí Serna scoring their second (also on the counter) on the stroke of half-time for 2-0.
The nightmare continued for the visitors as five minutes after the restart a penalty was awarded to Valencia which Ainhoa Alguacil coolly converted for 3-0.
The final nail in the coffin came five minutes later as Marta Carro was given far too much space to be able to head the ball into the back of the net for 4-0. Finally, just before the hour mark, Madrid CFF’s consolation goal came from a set piece which (after an initial deflection) Nautnes was able to flick the ball past Canales for 4-1.

Despite the victory, Valencia remain in the relegation spot with 11 points but will take confidence from that performance which earned them only their second win of the season.

Première Ligue (France)

Guingamp 2 – 6 Paris Saint-Germain:

PSG maintained their second spot in the league table with a very convincing win over bottom of the table Guingamp. The home side had a single early chance after which the visitors took control. Surprisingly, there was only one goal in the first half as Grace Geyoro found the back of the net first just after the 20th minute for 0-1.
Not long after the restart PSG came out fighting with Kanjinga and Albert making it 0-3 before Bhandari got one back for the home side just before the 60th minute to make it 1-3.
Soon after, Albert extended their lead for 1-4 before an unfortunate Guellati own goal made it 5 to the visitors. Bhandari, was then able to secure her brace just before the 90 minute mark for the home team before Marie-Antoinette Katoto netted PSG’s 6th and final goal of the evening.

PSG remain 10 points behind leaders Lyon in second place, whereas Guingamp remain in the relegation spot, 6 points behind Strasbourg.

Le Havre 0 – 2 Dijon:

Two first-half goals from the visitors in an incredibly dominant half were enough to take all three points in northern France.
Within 5 minutes, Viktoria Pinther had broken the deadlock and Wu Chengshu added to their tally in the 25th minute to secure the win. Despite registering 2/3 of their shots on target, Le Havre just couldn’t trouble Talaslahti in the Dijon goal.

Dijon retain fourth place in the league table after this victory. Le Havre are in eighth place only two points clear of 9th place, Saint-Étienne.

Nantes 2 – 2 Montpellier:

A last minute equaliser for the home side saw the points shared between the teams sitting sixth and seventh in the league table.
Nantes started off well and took the lead through Pasquereau in the 7th minute and the rest of the half continued end-to-end. It wasn’t until the 75th minute, however, that Montpellier’s Rose Kadzere converted her first of the afternoon for the first equaliser.
Kadzere then doubled her tally in the 85th minute and it looked as though Montpellier would take the victory. However, in the third minute of additional time, Maureen Cosson equalised for the home side forcing the points to be shared.

In the league table, Montpellier continue to have a slight edge over Nantes, sitting three points above them in sixth place.

Paris FC 3 – 1 Strasbourg:

Surprisingly, it was near bottom of the table Strasbourg that were able to catch their hosts off-guard to take the lead after the fourth minute. It was a very well-worked team goal ending with Lorena Azzaro finding the back of the net for 0-1. Even though Paris FC dominated more of the ball and registered more than double the shots the visitors did, it wasn’t until after the restart when the home side’s goals started to flow.
In the 47th minute, Gaëtane Thiney equalised for Paris and moments later they had taken the lead through Kessya Bussy’s strike. With just over ten minutes of regular time to go, it was Bussy who turned provider with a skilful cross into the box for Mathilde Bourdieu to convert for 3-1 in the 74th minute.

Paris FC continue to close the gap on PSG (who are only one point in front) and remain in third place. Strasbourg remain in 11th place with a 6 point gap between themselves and relegation.

Reims 0 -1 Fleury:

This loss for the home side signalled Reims’ sixth game without a result, as the visitor’s single goal was the only thing that separated the two sides. However, it was the home team’s goalkeeper, Manon Heil, who pulled off some fantastic saves throughout the game to keep the scoreline so low. It took until the 64th minute for striker, Aïrine Fontaine, to steal the ball from the feet of Notel (which Reims felt should have been a foul) and took her chance in front of goal, finding the back of the net.

With this win, Fleury consolidate 5th place in the league table whereas Reims remain in 10th place, 8 points above the relegation spot.

Saint-Étienne 0 – 5 Lyon:

In this eagerly anticipated derby, Lyon were the ones who dominated throughout, putting an impressive five goals past their local rivals.
Just before the tenth minute, Lyon opened their account for the evening through Eugénie Le Sommer with a powerful strike from just outside of the box. Ada Hegerberg then added to the visitors tally for 2-0 after intercepting a poor clearance from Saint-Étienne’s defender Bogi and tapping it home. As the half moved into added time, it was Sara Däbritz who was able to add Lyon’s third of the afternoon.
After the restart, Saint-Étienne had a short spell of positive play which ended in their first real chance on goal, however, Lyon’s keeper, Benkarth, was able to come out and deflect the shot with her knee. Just after the 50th minute, Lyon were awarded a free-kick which Majri delivered expertly into the box for Vanessa Gilles to convert to make it 0-4.
Lyon showed no signs of slowing down, however, as wave after wave of shots landed in front of the home team’s goal until the fifth and final goal of the game was a superb strike from just inside the box from Melchie Durmornay.

This victory maintains Lyon’s unbeaten streak this season (won 17, drawn 1) and are 10 points clear at the top of the table. Saint-Étienne, however, are in 9th place without picking up any points in their last 4 games.
