Arsenal
Before the window even opens, there has been lots of speculation as to who Arsenal will bring in to replace their two departing goalkeepers, Vivianne Miedema and the recently injured Victoria Pelova. The north London club also delighted fans recently by penning new deals for Stina Blackstenius, Laura Wienroither and life-long gooner Leah Williamson.

The Seagulls, like Villa, are also looking to secure quality signings AND a new manager after sacking Mel Phillips at the start of 2024. Interim manager Mikey Harris only managing to take the south coast club to an unconvincing 9th place. By letting Sarri and Pinto go (who have played important roles in the 23/24 season) it’ll be interesting to see who they sign to take their place.

Chelsea
With legendary manager Emma Hayes leaving and another European legend Sonia Bompastor (previously of Lyon) officially taking over the helm of the reigning champions of the WSL; the dawn of a new age is in store for the London club. The world almost did a double-take when the club released what appeared to be a goodbye video for the Australian star striker Sam Kerr, however, most fans suspected this prank would be followed by a contract extension confirmation which came 20 minutes later; keeping SK20 in London until 2026.

Crystal Palace
The new kids on the WSL block this season after a fantastic 23/24 campaign in the Women’s Championship finishing only one point ahead of second place Charlton Athletic. The London team have already announced 13 departures so head coach Laura Kaminski will be looking to bring in new talent to strengthen the team and hopefully keep their place in the WSL next season.

Everton
A side that has been hit hard by injuries this season but Brian Sørensen should be incredibly proud of how his team have performed, finishing in a very respectable 8th, one point behind Aston Villa. With financial restraints a massive factor for the club, hopefully Sørensen can continue to spend wisely in this window.

Leicester City
A club that faced a really rough emotional rollercoaster of a season, from disappointing results (only 4 wins) to behind the scenes issues which lead to head coach Willie Kirk being relieved from his duties. This will be a window where Leicester can look toward a brand new start including replacing the 6 players that have already been announced as departing the club; including captain Aileen Whelan who has announced her retirement.
Retained: Sophie Howard and goalkeeper Janice Cayman have both signed 1 year extensions with the Foxes.

Liverpool
The red side of Liverpool were the dark horses of the 23/24 season and finished in an incredible 4th place with a staggering 41 points (6 points ahead of Manchester United) and therefore Matt Beard, rightfully so, won the WSL Manager of the Season award. A few surprises with players released so far including: Emma Koivisto and Natasha Flint, who both played an impressive part in the campaign. Aston Villa fans will be hoping fan favourite Miri Taylor (who has been released) will sign permanently to the West Midlands club after spending the second half of the year on loan there. Beard will be looking to strengthen this window to prove his team finishing so high was not a fluke.

Manchester City
The Cityzens were so close to winning the WSL title in the 23/24 season with only goal difference separating them from Chelsea. Gareth Taylor will be looking to strengthen his ranks in this window to challenge once more for the title. 6 players have already been announced to be leaving the Manchester side at the end of their contracts; including goalkeeper Ellie Roebuck who announced her “dream” signing to Barcelona and of course City and England legend Steph Houghton who announced her retirement earlier this season. A huge loss for the team both on and off the pitch.

Manchester United
The red devils had an underwhelming 23/24 season, finishing in 5th place behind season surprisers Liverpool; after many expected them to challenge for the top WSL and therefore Champions League spots. Questions were raised about whether Marc Skinner was the right man to continue to lead the team, but the club showed confidence in him as he announced he’d signed a further one year deal with the club. Rumours of Mary Earps’ future continue to circle, but at the time of writing there’s been no news at all from the club about existing contracts.
Retained: The club have triggered the extension in Nikita Parris’ contract, keeping her at the club for another year.

Tottenham Hotspur
A club who had a very hit and miss season due to injury and inconsistent results, however comfortably finishing in the top half of the table in 6th place. Head coach Robert Vilahamn has been vocal in wanting to continue helping the club solidify their identity and this window hopes to be promising for the London club. The big question will be if the Lilywhites manage to sign promising young star Grace Clinton permanently, or whether United will be wise and keep her in the north.

West Ham United
The London club looked to be on a strong trajectory at the beginning of the 23/24 season with strong signings including Katrina Gorry and Kristie Mewis and the appointment of new manager Rehanne Skinner. Unfortunately, due to injury, the hammers failed to gain momentum and were at risk of being relegated from the WSL, finishing in 11th place out of 12. Fortunately on this occasion, there was a 9 point buffer between them and 12th place Bristol City. With players returning from injury, West Ham will also be looking to strengthen to make sure they aren’t facing that battle at the bottom of the table again.
